In France, finding accommodation can be a real obstacle course, so this will be the first challenge you will have to face for your project in Normandy! That’s why we advise you to start your search as soon as possible.

With a few tools, a good knowledge of the housing sector in France and the support of your Euraxess Services Centre, you will find the ideal place to live and enjoy.

To understand the housing system, the Euraxess France network has published a guide that you can read online.

The Guarantor

In France, in order to rent an accommodation, it is often necessary to have what is called a guarantor. This is a person who will cover the debts you may incur, for example the guarantor will pay the rent in case the tenant is not able to pay. If you do not find a guarantor to support your rental file, don’t panic, we have selected in particular two solutions:

  • VISALE : this free solution allows people aged between 18 and 30 years old to get a reliable and serious guarantor
  • GARANTME : it is a paying guarantee system that showcases the seriousness of your application and your solvency to the landlord

Temporary Housing

In order to rent a permanent home in France, it is necessary to provide to the landlord a number of documents, such as the last 3 payslips and the tax notice.

This is why we advise you, for the first few days of your stay in Normandy, to book temporary accommodation. This way you have time to concentrate on your administrative stuff, get all the required documents for your rental file and find the accommodation that suits you.

Do not hesitate to contact your Euraxess Services Centre in order to get a list of temporary accommodations.
