Depending on the Duration of Your Stay and Your Country of Usual Residence
For a short stay, or for the first few months of a long stay, it is advisable to apply for a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) before departure.
This will facilitate access to health care in France for residents of the following countries :
Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and United Kingdom.
Residents of third countries
Thanks to the status of employee or student, any person residing in France for a period of more than three months, and holding a visa/residence permit, can benefit from the French health system.
For a short stay (less than three months in the country), it is essential to take out private health insurance and civil liability insurance.
